Architectural overview

Querix is probably the world’s most advanced Informix-4GL suite. It helps to exploit graphical features that will enhance the look and usability of 4GL applications, and makes development quick and reliable.

'Hydra4GL' is a powerful application, combining application layers that connect to libraries and services, communicate with the runtime environment, and then with the database and GUI server layers. It is these built-in capabilities that make 'Hydra4GL' capable of connecting to a variety of databases, including most of the major commercial databases in use around the world.

Use the power of its fully integrated development environment (IDE), and just add on the appropriate Querix advanced thin-client system to render your 4GL application with similar, but still native, look and feel on virtually any platform:

  • Eko Client (Traditional Character Mode Client)
  • Phoenix Client (Microsoft Windows)
  • Chimera Client (Java 2)
  • Arachne Client (XML/HTML)
These systems interface with the 'Hydra4GL' application server in single or multi-tier applications environments; delivering the most efficient and advanced 4GL applications to your desktop. At the core of the Querix toolset is 'Hydra4GL' - the core 4GL compiler suite, this forms the runtime engine, database layer, graphical interface (GUI) and application server. Currently 'Hydra4GL' supports dynamic SQL translation for connections to:
  • Informix
  • Oracle
  • IBM DB2
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Pervasive-SQL via ODBC
  • MySQL via ODBC
  • PostgreSQL via ODBC
Connection to other databases can be made avaliable on request. Additionally, 'Hydra4GL' contains its own applicaiton server, to enable connections via any of Querix's advanced thin-clients.
