With & Without Script

Scripting affects the appearence and functionality of the application; and from a systems architecure view, it can be seen as a separate layer within the presentation layer.

Media Resources & Start up time

GUIDemo (97 files, 1.4Mb) and CMS (87 files, 500Kb) both come with a large number of image and media files. This can be useful as it will give you a benchmark against which to compare the initial startup time against following program executions. Subsequent runs will be much faster, because all resource files will be cached in a local directory and are no longer sent from the server to your thin-client machine.

The 'Colors' Application

The "colors" demonstration shows you examples of the control that can be had over the appearance of a window, a form, and the text fields within that form. You can use the power of GUI script files to control the colours of the window background, field background and text in an application.

First click a menu option to select the window attribute, and then click a menu option to select the form attribute. To return to the window attribute, click the Exit menu button.

The 'GUIDemo' Application

The "GUI" demonstration shows a number of different layouts and features that can be included in your 4GL application, and in particular forms, using the power of 'Hydra4GL' 4.2 and GUI script files. When you run this application for the first time, 97 (1.4Mb) image and other resource files will be downloaded to your local client and cached for future application re-runs.

The 'CMS' Application

The CMS demonstration uses a simple representation of a Customer Management System, similar to that which many companies use. With it you can create, find, edit and delete records. It also shows how the screen can be customized with an image to reflect your own company branding. When you run this application for the first time, 87 (500Kb) image and other resource files will be downloaded to your local client and cached for future application re-runs.

Using Phoenix

These demonstration applications can, of course, also be run with Phoenix. Simply start up Phoenix and enter the following details in the corresponding fields of the connection dialog box:
